I asked around all my friends if they knew a good one. The typical response was: "I know many lawyers, but good ones? Not sure about that part". It was a joke but soon I realized how close to reality it was when I started my research. I contacted many of Martindale, BL, and Washingtonian immigration lawyer in the DC area and quite a few of them were manifestations of those very jokes – "pay us now, and then we'll see, but no guarantees." The price quotes I received differed by a factor of 5 (500%). When I finally found Ofelia Calderón – it was by recommendation of her colleges from another firm (which is always a good sign!), Ofelia ended up being the antithesis to the aforementioned lawyers.
